Strumica /STROO-mee-tsa/ is the largest supplier of fruit and vegetable produce in the country. Close to Strumica, Tsar Samuil's forces lost a major battle against the Byzantine army (1014 A.D.). The ruins of the castle where this battle was fought are located on the mountains above the town.
